Carpet weed is a long-lived creeping plant usually forming a dense mat of vegetation on the ground. The sprawling stems are covered in small white hairs and may become somewhat woody in as they mature. The small alternately arranged ovate to spathulate leaves are loosely covered in small white hairs, particularly when young. The small, inconspicuous flowers have five small white or pinkish 'petals' and are borne singly in the leaf forks.
From South Africa this species is a common weed of open grassy areas. Its mat forming characteristics enable it to smother native vegetation and form a monoculture if left uncontrolled.
